The Monroe City baseball team lost 13-3 in six innings to Bowling Green on Monday night.
Bowling Green struck for two runs in the top of the first and never gave the lead back.
Dawson Shively scored on a passed ball to put Monroe City on the board in the bottom of the frame, and Brad Cheek lifted a solo homer to left field in the second.
Even so, the Bobcats maintained a 4-2 lead going to the third inning and grew their advantage to eight runs after plating another tally in the fourth and five runs in the fifth.
Monroe City senior Austyn Nevels hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to bring home teammate Randy Musgrave, but that proved to be the Panthers final run of the day.
Bowling Green starter Stephen Merz tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings. He struck out eight batters and walked two.
Shively started on the mound for Monroe City, giving up four runs (two earned) over two innings of work. He was charged with the loss. Randy Musgrave tossed the final four innings for the Panthers.
Lance Williams, who went 3-for-3 at the plate to collect half his team's hits, was a bright spot for the Panthers.
Monroe City (2-9) faces Centralia on the road Tuesday.
