The Hannibal track and field team took a trip to Mexico on Saturday for the Ron Whittaker Bulldog Classic. Of 11 schools represented, the Pirates squad finished sixth and the Lady Pirates took seventh.
Shamar Griffith landed in first place in the triple jump (44-01.25) for the boys' best performance of the day. The senior standout also placed fourth in the long jump (19-05.50) and 100 meter dash (11.90).
Ayden Nichols placed second in both the mile race (4:37.28) and 2-mile (10:16.98).
Mika Taganeca finished fifth in the shot put (43-01.00), while Bradyn Adkins took seventh (40-01.00).
Diamond Fernando and Will Sewell were part of two top-finishing relay teams. They teamed with Andrew Jones and Griffith to place third in the 4x200 (1:35.05) and also worked with Mark Woodson and Billy Smashey to earn second in the 4x100 (45.00).
Other top finishes for the boys included Daniel Colborn (seventh in triple jump), Smashey (fifth in 100 meter dash) and Sewell (fourth in 200 meter dash).
On the girls side, Kaitlyn Griffen paved the way with a third-place showing in the high jump (4-08.00).
Taylor Vandelicht placed fourth in the pole vault (9 feet even), while Emily Bramblett took fifth in the shot put (31-09.50) and Molly Broughton landed seventh in the triple jump (30-01.50).
Elaijah Mayfield finished fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.96). Claudia Nichols took sixth in the mile (5:50.60), while Autumn Bigsby placed sixth in the 400 meter dash (1:05.92) and seventh in the 800 meters (2:37.80).
Bigsby joined Delaney Cooke, Maria Clark and Elle Hudelson to race to second place in the 4x800 relay with a time of 10:44.79.
