One was all it took for the Hannibal girls soccer team during a road blanking of Kirksville on Monday night.
Shelby Stine scored the first and only goal in the 35th minute of the North Central Missouri Conference contest to give the Lady Pirates a 1-0 advantage.
While Hannibal (10-4, 6-1 NCMC) failed to capitalize on opportunities to build more of a cushion, its slim lead stood the course of time.
"Overall, we did some good things," Hannibal coach Eric Hill said. "Finishing was not one of them. We had 34 total shots, 24 of which were on goal, but a lot of our shots were hit right at their goalkeeper making it easy on her. But we did get the one goal that mattered."
Samantha Zielinski recorded her eighth shutout of the season in net for the Lady Pirates.
"Coming away from a conference road game with a win, we'll take it," Hill said.
Hannibal faces Boonville on the road Thursday night. Boonville won the teams' first meeting of the season 2-1 on March 31.
In the junior varsity game Monday, Hannibal and Kirksville ended in a scoreless tie.
Hannibal mustered two shots, while Kirksville had zero.
Desarae Garcia recorded the shutout in goal for the Lady Pirates.
