Albert "Al" L. Johnston, 77, of Hannibal, passed away at 4:16 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2019, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Rich Stilley will officiate. Burial with Full Military Rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Friends and family are invited to Al's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.

Al was born Sept. 12, 1941, in Hannibal, to Hewl W. Glover and Ann Heathman Glover.

He was married to Billie Sue Bonnell on Aug. 9, 1962 in Hannibal. She survives.

Other survivors include one son, Kevin Lee Bremmer (Lisa); two brothers, Bill Glover (Esther) of Hannibal, Hewl "Pug" Glover of Hannibal; one sister, Millie True (John) of Hannibal; one grandson, Lance Alan Bremmer; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved pet dog, Sammy.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, David Johnston (Barbara); and his close friend who was like a brother to him, Dean Stone.

Al served his country proudly in the United States Navy. Al was stationed on the USS Murray 576 in October of 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

A longtime area business man, Al was the owner and operator of Al's Tire Store for over 40 years, retiring in August of 2015.

Away from work Al, enjoyed all kinds of hunting and fishing with friends and family. Al enjoyed spending time with friends socializing at the Hannibal VFW Post # 2446, where he was a former Commander. Al was a longtime member of the "GoodFellows" group. A former resident of Monkey Run for many years, Al always enjoyed living there. Old westerns, apple pie and the music of Willie Nelson were a few of Al's favorites. Most of all, Al simply cherished his friends and family.

Al was a Christian by faith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hannibal VFW Post 2446.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Bremmer, Lance Bremmer, Kenny Glover, Billy Glover, Eddie Glover, Mike Johnston, John True and Jamie True.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Whitley, Bobby Whitley, Bill Trail and his friends at the VFW.
