Obituary: Charlotte A. Haught Garrett, 81, of Hannibal

Charlotte A. Haught Garrett, 81, of Hannibal, passed away at 4:23 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2019, at her home. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Father Mike Quinn will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Friends and family are invited to Charlotte's Life Celebration at a visitation from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Charlotte was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Hannibal to Glen Haught and Nellie Glenn Haught.  Charlotte was raised by her grandmother, Essie Glenn.

She was married to Shannon L. "Sonny" Garrett on May 4, 1957, in Hannibal. He preceded her in death March 25, 2017.

Survivors include three children, Morgan Whelan (Gerald) of Hannibal, Richard W. Garrett (Wanda) of Hannibal and Bradley S. Garrett of Hannibal; two brothers, Ronnie Haught (Norma) and Bob Moyers (Judy); and three sisters, Sissy Gregg (Harold), Glendall Campen (Bob) and Sheryl Baker (Dan). She is also survived by six grandchildren, Phillip, Andrew, Joseph, Kelley, Shane and Jenny; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Judy Haught; and nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; her paternal grandparents; her grandmother, Essie Glenn; one son, Francis L. "Les" Garrett; one brother, Bob Haught; and one stepgrandson, Douglas Whelan.

Charlotte owned and operated several bars in Hannibal with her husband, Sonny, for many years. She owned Sonny’s, Sonny’s National Bar and Sonny’s Third Street Depot. After retiring from the bar business, Charlotte worked as a cashier at Walmart until she retired.

Away from work Charlotte loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, with tomatoes being her specialty.  Charlotte took pleasure in socializing with friends and liked to visit with them at the Hannibal VFW. Most of all Charlotte cherished the moments she shared with family and her neighbors.

Charlotte was a Christian by faith.

In Case You Missed It

HANNIBAL |The Bluff City Theater Annex at 403 Broadway will host a summer camp called “A Breath of Fresh Air” for children ages 6 to 10 in July, with separate sessions for two age divisions. It will begin Monday, July 13, and registration is still available.
