Donald “Don” R. Daniels Sr., 77, of Holts Summit, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019.

Donald “Don” R. Daniels Sr., 77, of Holts Summit, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019.

He was born on June 16, 1941, in Hannibal, a son of Jewell and Elva (Hinch) Daniels.

He was united in marriage to Sylvia L. Baker on Jan. 1, 1977.

Don graduated from Hannibal High School in 1959, joined the United States Army and served from 1960 to 1963. Don received IBM training at Fort Benjamin Harrison and was later assigned as a shift supervisor in Zweibrucken, Germany. While serving in the Army he took classes at the University of Maryland and learned to speak German.

After being honorably discharged with many commendations he returned home to work for the state of Missouri for the Division of Employment Security for over 30 years. He also worked for the Missouri Highway Patrol and later helped with transportation assistance for veterans. Don enjoyed building houses and working on crafts. He was a member of the American Legion and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Don is survived by his wife, Sylvia, of the home; one son, Donald R. (Shelley) Daniels, Jr. of Jefferson City; two daughters, Tammy Lynn (James) Daly of Shepleigh, Maine, and Gina Richelle (Randy) Saxbury of Hannibal; grandchildren, Shane, Kaylee (Aaron) Martel, Chad, Jaden, Brittany (Jordan) Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Isabelle; and one brother, George “Bob” Daniels of Palmyra.

Don was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Robbie” Daniels; and his parents.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Interment will follow in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
