Obituary: Hubert Daniels, 64, of St. Louis

Posted: Sep. 7, 2018 10:52 am

Hubert Daniels was born in 1953 in Kansas City, Mo., to Mable Louise Gardner Daniels and Jerry Jo Daniels, who preceded him in death.

His siblings, Jacie Ragan (Bill), Joe Daniels (Vickie) and Katie Epperson (Jeff) survive.

He died in Barnes Hospital on Aug. 31, 2018, after a lengthy illness.

A lifelong learner and book lover, with an avid interest in politics, sports, psychology and the human condition, his final job as a reader for the Texas Press Clipping Service suited him perfectly. He was a a serious student of the Bible.

He relished travel, hitchhiking across the country in his youth, and preferred living in urban areas, recently moving to a hundred-year-old brick home near downtown St. Louis to be closer to family. But his heart was always in Ralls County.

He was a veteran of the Air Force. He was a skilled chess player, and loved baseball, as well as all types of music, particularly folk, country, roots and jazz, and he savored the art of a lively conversation. He especially liked music history, and Texas singers with three names. He was comfortable in his own skin, frequently described as "one-of-a-kind" and unforgettable.
