Elmer T. Phelps, 95, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 6:23 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Hannibal, Mo.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Elmer was born Sept. 19, 1921, in Monroe City, Mo., to Clyde C. and Glenna Gobble Phelps.
He was married to Laura Stone Hymes on Sept. 25, 1950, in Hannibal, Mo. She preceded him in death Oct. 10, 1995.
Survivors include one sister, Edna Zeiger of Palmyra, Mo.; one brother, Warren Phelps of Palmyra, Mo.; two stepgrandsons, Charlie Hymes and Michael Hymes, both of Hannibal, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one stepdaughter, Charlotte Hymes; one stepson, Richard Hymes; one sister, Velma Meyers; and two brothers, Clarence Phelps and Ivan Phelps.
Elmer was a United States Army veteran. He served his country in 1947 during World War II in Japan. Elmer worked for the city of Hannibal on the street department crew, retiring after 35 years.
Elmer enjoyed fishing and spending time with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He also liked doing word search puzzles and playing his guitar and listening to country music. He was a Christian by faith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Olivet Cemetery for grounds maintenance.
