Obituary: William 'Bill' Clapper, 87, of Shelbina, Mo.

William “Bill” Clapper, 87, of Shelbina, Mo., passed away on May 14, 2016.
Bill was born on Dec. 31, 1928, in Shelbina, Mo., the son of Russell Garnet and Thelma Combs Clapper. He was united in marriage to Frances Jean Browne on Jan. 15, 1949, in Hunnewell, Mo. Later, he married Dixie Joann Gaines on Nov. 29, 1986, in Macon, Mo. Both survive.
Bill graduated from Shelbina High School in 1946. He served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army during WWII and the Korean conflict and is a lifetime member of the Shelbina American Legion. Bill and his first wife, Jean, owned and operated Clappers Tavern from December 1953 to December 1979. He enjoyed the YMCA, was a proud supporter of the University of Missouri, a member of the Tiger Quarterback Club and attended the Macon Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016, at Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Shelbina, Mo., with Jim Bolin and Reverend Karl Knapp as the officiants. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday morning, at the funeral home in Shelbina. Burial will be at the Shelbina Cemetery in Shelbina, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the Shelbina Library and Macon Area YMCA.
