Kylie McAfee's great week continued by throwing a one-hit shut out against Moberly.
HANNIBAL – Kylie McAfee has been leading the Hannibal softball team with her bat the past week.
She did it with her arm Tuesday afternoon.
McAfee tossed a one-hit shutout to lead Hannibal to a 1-0 North Central Missouri Conference victory over Moberly at Veterans Sports Complex.
“We just expect these kinds of things from her, because we knew she’d be able to play a big role for us,” Hannibal coach Andrew Pollard said. “It’s awesome what she’s been able to do for us.”
McAfee, who entered the game having belted four home runs in the last four contests, didn’t need to hit another home run against the Spartans. She struck out seven and didn’t issue a walk in the victory.
“It seems like when she goes, we go,” Pollard said.
Hannibal’s lone run came on a sacrifice fly hit by Alyssa Hart in the bottom of the second inning.
McAfee still managed the one-hitter despite Hannibal (4-3) committing four errors. Pollard contributed that to her ability to attack the strike zone.
“She was just hitting her spots, and that’s her biggest thing,” Pollard said. “She’s not going to walk teams because when she misses, she misses in the middle of the plate. She just didn’t miss tonight.”
