Driver escapes with minor injuries in car fire

MARION COUNTY – Matthew S. Gerding, 16, of Maywood, went to the Hannibal Ambulatory Care Center in Hannibal for treatment of minor injuries, after his car caught fire in an accident at 3:57 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, in Marion County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Gerding was driving a 2007 Honda Fit on state Highway 168 two miles west of Palmyra, when the car went off the right side of the road.

The car hit a fence and caught fire, according to the State Patrol. Gerding was using a safety device.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Palmyra Fire Department, Marion County Ambulance crew and Marion County Sheriff's Department.
