Walgreens will close dozens of locations in the coming months, becoming the latest retailer to trim its U.S. footprint.

About 200 stores in total are expected to be shuttered by Walgreens, the nation's second-largest pharmacy chain, according to CNN.

A list of the locations has not yet been released.

Walgreens said employees displaced by the closures would be offered jobs at stores that will remain open.

The latest announcement comes just two months after Walgreens announced Boots, a chain it owns in the United Kingdom, would close 200 locations.

Rival CVS earlier this year said it was closing 46 stores, including one in Missouri that was the largest CVS in the entire nation.
