HANNIBAL - The body of a woman who went missing after a boat collision Saturday night at Hannibal was found Sunday morning, according to Sgt. Eric Myers with the lllinois Conservation Police.
According to a report on WGEM-TV, Myers said the body was recovered around 9:30 a.m. in the Mississippi River near Hannibal, and a life jacket was on the body.
He said a number of agencies arrived at sunrise, but they had to wait for barges to be moved before starting the search. He said once they were moved, the Adams County Emergency Corp. ran the sonar boat to get an image of the body in the water.
He said as soon as they moved the barges, the body came out from underneath, and the recovery was made by the Hannibal Fire Department.
After the recovery, agencies pulled the damaged pontoon boat out of the river. Myers said it will be used as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Officials said seven people were on the boat when the crash happened Saturday evening. Authorities said five people made it to shore okay. Two died. It took authorities until Sunday morning to recover the second body.
