HANNIBAL, Mo. - The Hannibal Arts Council will host a special jazz performance, An Evening of Jazz with Samantha Fierke + Trio, at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the Hannibal Arts Council, 105 S. Main St.
Hannibal holds a special place in Fierke’s heart as it's where she would come to from the big city as a very young girl to play in the woods, sled on serious snow, and where her appreciation for jazz was kindled by the music her grandparents, Jack and Phyllis Fierke, loved. Fierke has been looking forward to stretching her musical legs beyond the Columbia area and she and her trio are thrilled to be coming to Hannibal.
Prepare to be treated to what jazz vocalist Jane Monheit called "a mixture of innocence and maturity that is both lovely and unique to her age." Clips of her performances, upcoming and past events and all her social links can be found on her website samdoesjazz.com.
The trio accompanying Fierke includes Sam Luetkemeyer (piano/vocals), Cole Kieffer (bass) and Loyd Warden (drums). Fierke and her trio entertains audiences with funk, blues, soul, R&B and pop, but what she loves most — where she really shines — is jazz: ballads, sambas, bossa novas, big band, swing and bebop. She studies the greats of the past as well as current — Ella Fitzgerald, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Jane Monheit, Esperanza Spalding, Gretchen Parlato, Aretha Franklin, Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone and Al Jarreau.
Due to limited space, pre-registration and pre-payment is required. Tickets are $15 per person and students are free.
