Summer just started but retailers are already gearing up for the back-to-school season.

JCPenney, for instance, said this week it will hire 22,000 seasonal workers across the country to perform a variety of duties, including stocking shelves and working cash registers.

JCPenney salons are adding stylists, as well, the Texas-based retailer said.

Seasonal workers will get a 25% merchandise discount, and flexible scheduling is available.

Many seasonal workers wind up sticking around, becoming a part of JCPenney's everyday workforce.

To apply, stop by the employment kiosk at your local JCPenney store or visit jobs.jcp.com.

JCPenney has more than 800 stores across the U.S.
