The Hannibal High School class of 2019 will receive diplomas Thursday, May 16, after the senior banquet Friday, May 10, at the Rialto Banquet Hall.

The banquet is traditionally served during a cruise on the Mark Twain Riverboat, but with the Mississippi River's flood stage preventing this, the boat crew instead served its usual banquet at the Rialto. Mark Twain Riverboat owner Steve Terry told the graduates he could schedule their cruise later. He planned to resume his cruises soon, possibly Monday, May 13.

After sharing their dinner, the senior class officers honored their classmates with superlative award certificates. Class officers are President Jonathan Zielinski, Vice President Riley Stevenson, Secretary Elise Baumann and Treasurer Makenzie Prenger.

Also attending the senior banquet were school administrators and members of the Hannibal Board of Education.

Later several classmates displayed their musical talent on instruments and/or vocally.

The class members were given an opportunity to name a favorite teacher and/or favorite HHS memory. Among teachers and memories shared were:

Victoria Bower's favorite memory was “with Miss Waddell singing along to the Jonas Brothers.”

Hannah Nichols said a favorite memory was when “a teacher connected with students, going out of their way to help them out.”

Kathryn Morrell also shared her favorite high school memory, “when we would beat Helias in football.”

Meghan Malone said “My favorite memory with Ms. Graves is eating Olive Garden.”

The superlatives were:

Best laugh – Abi DeLaPorte and Jonathon Zielinski

Couple that never was – Hannah Nichols and Evan Flaspohler

Most accident prone – Chloe Mitchell and Nick Tompkins

Biggest overachiever – Mackenzie Prenger and John Maune

Most likely to be caught sleeping in class – Haley Ballenger and Bradley McCollum

Most photogenic – Riley Stevenson and Colton Andrews

Biggest ego – Madison Person and Will Whitaker

Most likely to live in Hannibal all their lives – Kadie Stroud and Chad Otten

Most likely to leave Hannibal and never come back – Abbie Stoll and Tyler Stevenson

Most likely to get mad if they didn't get a superlative – Hannah Nichols and Cedric Singleton

Most opinionated – Josie Zeiger and Jordan Schafer

Best sportsmanship – Maddie Janes and Chase Kirby

Most friendly – Elise Baumann and Danny Colborn
