On Sunday, May 12, the Missouri Department of Transportation reported the Mississippi River had receded, and MoDOT crews cleaned up state Highway 79 north of Louisiana to re-open it, after it had been closed due to flooding.

As the Mississippi River level continues to drop, other roads should open this week, according to MoDOT. Go to MoDOT's traveler map at www.modot.org for updates. The map is also an app that can be downloaded free at the same URL.

MoDOT urged motorists to drive carefully, always wear your seat belt, and put your phone down to pay attention to the most important task at hand - driving.
