May is Better Speech and Hearing month, and to bring awareness to the effects of hearing loss, Hannibal Clinic is offering free hearing screens for individuals throughout the month.
"Better hearing equals, better wellness," said Lexi Kirner, Au.D., Audiologist at Hannibal Clinic. "Hearing is a critical element to quality of life. Hearing loss is a common problem impacting people of all ages."
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, more than 36 million people in the United States have some hearing loss.
"People with untreated hearing loss are more likely to report depression and anxiety, participate less in social activities and are at greater risk for developing dementia," Kirner said. "It’s important that individuals over the age of 55 have their hearing checked as part of an annual wellness program."
Interested individuals can schedule an appointment for their free hearing screening by calling Hannibal Clinic’s Audiology department at 573-231-3816.
