A pair of errors in the bottom of the seventh inning helped John Burroughs score the winning run Monday in its 4-3 victory over Hannibal.
The Pirates, who stranded a total of seven runners on base in the first three innings, fell behind 3-0 in the fourth. Another runner was cut down at the plate on a relay from centerfielder Danny Colborn, to Gary Culp, to catcher Chase Kirby. It was the first of two runners Colborn would cut down at the plate in the game.
Hannibal rallied to tie the game in the fifth. Mason Tharp kicked off the comeback with a single. Following a stolen base Tharp would score on a hit by Gabe Worthington. Will Whitaker followed with a game-tying homer to left field.
In the seventh, singles by Whitaker and Kirby gave the Pirates a scoring opportunity which they cannot cash in.
In the bottom of the seventh a pair of Pirate errors helped John Burroughs pull out the win.
Adam Baxter took the loss. He pitched six innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out one and walking one.
Hannibal had nine hits in the game. Drake Dudley and Whitaker each collected two hits for HHS.
