In celebration of National Salvation Army Week, May 13-19, The Hannibal Salvation Army invites the community to customer appreciation days at The Family Store.

Customer Appreciation Day at The Family Store in Hannibal will be Thursday, May 16. Hot dogs, chips, drinks and desserts will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at each store. In addition to a customer appreciation luncheon, each store will be giving away a $20 gift card the day of the event. No purchase is necessary and participants do not need to present at the time of the drawing.

The Salvation Army Family Stores offer clothing, household furnishings and a variety of other items at affordable prices. Money raised from the sale of items helps provide funding for social service programs. For individuals and families in need who are unable to afford to purchase items they need, these items may be provided at no cost through social services.

In Quincy and Hannibal, The Salvation Army helps people with several different services including rent and mortgage payment assistance, grocery assistance through the food pantry, support to purchase prescription medicine and assistance with energy bills. Each year, more than 14,630 people receive support, thanks to generous donors, volunteers and corporate partners.

In 1954, the U.S. Congress approved a joint resolution for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim a week to recognize the humanitarian efforts of The Salvation Army, one of the nation’s largest and oldest faith-based health and human service providers. Today, with the help of more than 3.2 million volunteers, The Salvation Army serves more than 25 million Americans every year. With a presence in every ZIP code across the country, The Salvation Army uniquely understands the demands facing Americans in need.
