Fight leads to assault, weapons charges for Bowling Green man

Officers of the Hannibal Police Department were called to the 100 block of Lindsey Drive during the evening of Saturday April 27 for a fight in progress involving several people.


When officers arrived on the scene, they learned a Bowling Green man had been stabbed in his upper abdomen while attempting to break up the altercation. Lucas Benjamin, 35, of Bowling Green, was arrested at the scene for charges of assault and unlawful use of a weapon. Benjamin was placed in the Marion County Jail on a 24-hour hold.


The victim was held overnight at the Hannibal Regional Hospital for observation.


A warrant was issued by the Circuit Court of Marion County on Sunday, April 28 charging Benjamin with the Class D felony of second-degree assault and the Class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon. His bond was set at $25,000.00 cash only. Benjamin remains in the Marion County Jail. Benjamin is set to appear for arraignment before Judge John Jackson on Monday, May 3 in Marion County Associate Court. Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Luke Bryant represents the state.
