Attempted bank robbery ends in arrest

Gary L. Haynes, 42, of Hannibal, has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon, after the Hannibal Police Department was called to an attempted bank robbery at approximately 2:55 p.m. Friday, April 19.

The HPD report states officers responded to the F&M Bank at 505 Broadway in regard to a disturbance occurring inside the bank. It was reported a male inside the bank was wielding a hammer-like weapon and demanding money from the bank.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted Haynes outside the bank in the 500 block of Broadway. He was placed under arrest without incident. Haynes was placed on a 24-hour hold and released to the Marion County jail. No employees of the bank were injured during the incident.

On Saturday, April 20, the 10th Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County issued an arrest warrant for Haynes, charging him with unlawful use of a weapon, with bond set at $50,000, cash only.
