Hannibal High School's tennis team improved its dual meet record to 2-1 on Saturday when it defeated Marshall 5-4 at HHS.

Hannibal High School's tennis team improved its dual meet record to 2-1 on Saturday when it defeated Marshall 5-4 at HHS.

The meet was determined in doubles action, according to HHS Coach Robert Catalpa.

"The match came down to #1 doubles in which Hannibal won the last four games after being down 6-7," he said.

In singles play: #1 Ethan Bross lost 4-10 to Christian Clair, #2 Collin Poage won 10-2 over Kolton King, #3 Nathan Destefane won 10-1 against Jerome Alex-Likorio, #4 Trent Kempker won 10-3 over Luke Miles, #5 Kyle Murphy lost 5-10 to Brayden Chumpraphai, #6 Noah Evans lost 2-10 to Sergio Ruiz.

In doubles action: #1 Bross/Kempker won 10-7 over Clair/Miles, #2 Poage/Destefane won 10-2 against King/Chumpraphai, #3 Murphy/Evans lost 5-10 to Likorio-Alex/Ruiz.

In junior varsity play: Chris Lewis/John Zielinski lost 4-10 then won 10-8, Clayton Newlon/Macen Mitchell lost 5-10 then won 10-6, Carter Sims lost 5-8 then lost 1-8. 

Hannibal's tennis team was scheduled to face Mexico at HHS on Monday.
