Columbia teen injured in Pike County crash

A Columbia teenager suffered minor injuries Sunday in a two-vehicle collision in Pike County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol the mishap occurred at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, March 3, on U.S. 54 west of Curryville.
Both vehicles, a 2012 Ford F250 and a 2005 Dodge 1500, were both westbound on U.S. 54. The Dodge, driven by 58-year-old James C. Kalapp of Columbia, attempted to overtake the Ford, operated by 62-year-old Joseph P. Salois of Curryville. When the Dodge hit a patch of ice it's right front struck the left front of the Ford. The Dodge traveled off the right side of the road where it struck an embankment which caused it to become airborne and strike another embankment.
Injured was 13-year-old Brianna J. Kalapp of Columbia, who was a passenger in the Dodge. Kalapp, who was not wearing a safety device, was taken by ambulance to Pike County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her minor injuries.
