New administrators officially begin duties this summer

Meghan Karr and Shawn Brown have been hired by the Hannibal Public School District #60 for the 2019-20 school year as assistant superintendents as Maria Mundle and Darin Powell retire after this school year.

Karr has been employed by the Hannibal public school district since 2008. During that time, she has served as a special education teacher at Veterans Elementary and principal at the Early Childhood Center. For the past two years, she has served as principal of Eugene Field Elementary.

Prior to joining the Hannibal school district, she was a special education teacher at Jefferson Junior High School in Columbia from 2002-06.

Karr has a total of 17 years in education, 10 years teaching experience and seven years in administration. She graduated from Truman State University in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in communication disorder. She went on to earn a master’s degree in special education from the University of Iowa in 2002, an education specialist’s degree from William Woods University in 2011 and a doctorate in education from William Woods in 2016.

Karr resides in Palmyra with her husband, Lance and three children: Birdie, a second grader; Harper, a sixth grader; and Jackson, a sixth grader.

Brown is currently employed as a Missouri Model District/Missouri Leadership Development consultant by Education Plus/St. Louis RPDC. He has previously been employed as a high school principal at Wright City R-II School District, assistant high school principal at Wright City R-II School District, facilitator for the DESE Leadership Academy, high school English language arts teacher at Jackson R-II School District, and high school English language arts teacher at Wright City R-II School District.  

Brown has a total of 19 years in education, five years teaching experience and 13 years in administration.

Brown graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He went on to earn a master’s degree in education administration from Lindenwood University in 2002 and an education specialist degree from Missouri Baptist University in 2015.  

Brown lives in Foristell with his two children: Parker, an 11th grader, and Lilly, a ninth grader.
