Artie and Carolyn Whelan of Clapper will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Feb. 23.

Artie and Carolyn Whelan of Clapper will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Feb. 23.

Carolyn Boss and Army Pvt. Artie Whelan married at St. Stephen Catholic Church at Indian Creek on Feb. 23, 1954.

Her parents were Fred and Mary Hazel Walkley Boss. His were Herman and Bessie Abell Whelan.

 

The Whelans are lifelong Monroe County farmers. They attend St. Stephen Catholic Church at Indian Creek where Artie is the oldest living male member. He also is long-time president of Monroe County Farmers Mutual Board and Carolyn is treasurer of St. Andrew Cemetery.

 They have four children: Linda Whelan Geist, Monroe City; Mike (Johnna) Whelan, Stoutsville; Debbie (Destry) Cook, Monroe City; and Lisa (Mike) Minor, Stoutsville.
