Monroe City Singers will begin rehearsals for the spring season at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Monroe City Methodist Church, 218 Catherine St. in Monroe City.
Singers will be preparing for the spring concerts featuring Broadway music and Missouri composers and arrangers, with Mr. Dan O'Donnell of Weldon Springs directing. O'Donnell is a native of northeast Missouri, raised on a dairy farm outside Shelbina. He earned a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and Masters and Specialist Degrees from Northeast Missouri State University, now Truman State University, and a Doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He taught vocal and instrumental music and coached football, basketball, baseball and tennis for nine years in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa. He served as a principal for four years and a Superintendent for 21 years in Missouri and Illinois before retiring from education in 2012.
Dan co-founded and directs the Mark Twain Chorale International. The group tours Europe every other year and have performed in Austria, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales, The Netherlands, Belgium, Slovakia, The Czech Republic and Switzerland. In 2016, he directed the MT Chorale International for Mass at St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican. Mrs. Jan Gottman Adam will be the accompanist.
The Monroe City Singers are a volunteer choral group from Monroe City and adjoining towns, Paris, Shelbina, Shelbyville, Perry, Center, Philadelphia, Palmyra, Hannibal and Quincy. No auditions are required, just a love for music and singing.
