The Hannibal Lady Pirates could not overcome a slow start Wednesday night and they wound up losing 53-40 to Francis Howell North in a semifinal game of the Warrenton Winter Shootout.

North took command early, building a 20-7 advantage in the opening quarter.

"We had a messy first quarter that we tried to battle back from but came up short," Hannibal Coach Evan Cerven said.

Hannibal did not help itself at the free-throw line where it connected on just four of 13 attempts.

Leading the Lady Pirates in scoring with 11 points was Kaylee Falconer.

Because of snow in the forecast for Friday, Hannibal's game for third place in the tournament was moved up to Thursday evening.
