Pirate grapplers edge Bulldogs

Hannibal High School's wrestling team picked up a dual meet win Wednesday night, edging the Bulldogs 34-33 in Mexico.


On the mat the Pirates picked up one victory by a fall, one by a major decision and two by decisions.


Hannibal's lone pin came at 160 pounds, where Trevor Wilson prevailed at 1:09.


Hannibal's major decision of 12-3 came from Vernell Hawkins at 182 pounds.


Winning decisions for the Pirates were Gavin Morawitz (138 pounds) and Garrett Ruby (152 pounds). Morawitz beat his opponent 6-3 while Ruby won by a score of 9-5.


Hannibal's varsity is scheduled to compete Friday and Saturday at the St. Charles West Tournament. The Pirate junior varsity is at the Moberly Tournament on Saturday.
