Big second half lifts Pirates to victory

A 20-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter put the Hannibal Pirates on the road to a 66-47 victory over Fort Zumwalt West Monday in the first round of the Warrenton tournament.

Hannibal built a 10-point lead in the opening period (22-12). Preston Bennett and Adreke Brumbaugh, who would both finish in double figures in scoring, each netted eight points in the first stanza.
Hannibal's cushion disappeared in the second quarter when West outscored the Pirates 15-5.
In the pivotal third quarter, Dezi Jones led Hannibal's attack with nine points. Jones scored 20 of his 29 points in the second half when the Pirates outscored West 39-20.
Bennett finished the game with 13 points while Brumbaugh added 10.
Hannibal, 8-2, was scheduled to face Warrenton on Wednesday afternoon.
