Palmyra's Brett Griesbaum also honored

Hannibal High School's Claudia Nichols and Palmyra's Brett Griesbaum have been named to the 2018 Tri-State Cross Country Coaches All Area Teams.

For the third year in a row, Nichols finds herself among the areas best on the first team. The leader of the Pirates program, Nichols didn't change that in 2018. She placed eighth overall at the QHS Tom Oakley Invitational where she ran 20:34 against many of the area's best. Nichols did not have the post-season she would have liked in 2018, but look for her to bounce back in 2019 to finish her high school XC career with a fourth straight first team appearance. Griesbaum, the Panther senior, saved his best for last when it came to his XC career. Griesbaum lead Palmyra throughout 2018 where he ended up earning program bests throughout.  He placed 11th at the conference meet in Shelbina before earning an 11th place finish at the Bowling Green district meet to qualify for the Missouri state meet, which was a program best. At the state meet, he earned the program's best state meet finish when he placed 51st overall. Joining Nichols on the first-team girls squad were Bowling Green's sophomore Camy Grote, senior Kate Klott and freshman Megan McMillen, and Marion County freshman Delaney Straus. Female runners chosen to the honorable mention list were Bowling Green's Megan Kniess, junior, Sylvia Wagner, junior; Marion County's Olivia Wood, freshman; Mark Twain's Zoe Miller, sophomore; Palmyra's Lauren Reid, sophomore, Lydia Szarka sophomore and South Shelby's Meredith O'Neil, senior. Local honorable mention selections from the boys team were Bowling Green's Colton Hearn, freshman, Evan Meyer, sophomore; Marion County's Matt Wellman, Senior; and Palmyra's Spencer Locke, junior.
