City crews continued the demolition Wednesday, Dec. 5 of the Louisiana Municipal Swimming Pool in Veterans Park. Guard towers and the pool house had been removed, with concrete around the kiddie pool being broken up. Aldermen agreed to permanently close the facility in May 2015 after years of costly repairs and a failed effort to keep it afloat financially. The low-priority demolition began two weeks ago and will proceed only as time allows while other projects are addressed. The city hopes to finish the work before next spring. The site will be filled and graded, but there are no immediate plans for its use. The pool was built in the late 1960s. Louisiana still has a swimming facility. The Twin Pike Family YMCA opened an aquatics center in August 2015.
