Fire Dept: House fire set by electrical problem

The Hannibal Fire Department quickly extinguished a house fire at 6:16 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at 1101 Church St.

Assistant Fire Chief Clinton Conrad provided the following report. The fire department took two engines, one ladder truck, a command vehicle and one rescue truck to the fire.

Initially, 12 firefighters arrived on the scene and found heavy fire and smoke coming from a single-story residence. A search of the structure was performed while firefighters extinguished the fire. The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes.

The deputy chief was notified and responded to the scene, along with one investigator. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately five hours, performing overhaul and investigating the cause and origin.

There were no injuries and the fire was found to be accidental in nature, due to electrical problems. No one was home at the time of the fire.
