Mark Twain falls to South Shelby 68 to 40 in second game
The Monroe City Tournament brought a victory for the Monroe City girls basketball team along with a win for the South Shelby Lady Birds.
In the tournament's first game, Monroe City's Hallie Dyer led with 22 points, followed by Jada Summers with 13 points and Lauren Youngblood with 11 points. The Monroe City team's offense was consistent throughout, with players picking up 38 points in the first half 32 in the second half.
Louisiana's first half was stronger than the second half, with players receiving 11 points near the beginning and five points in the second half. Faith Rule and Kamara Combs led in scoring, with six points and five points, respectively.
During the second tournament game, Mark Twain was defeated by South Shelby 68-40. Scoring was consistent throughout the game, led by Katie Mitchell with 22, Meredith O'Neal with 17 and Mallory Wood with 15. Mark Twain's leading scorers were Elizabeth Trower with 13 points, Emma Ross with nine points and Mackenzie Ogle with eight points.
