A special hashtag will reflect the opportunity to make a difference for children and families facing cancer — #Giving Tuesday is dedicated to raising funds for the fight against the disease.

Giving Tuesday is Nov. 26, and the Leaps of Love organization pledged to give 100 percent of proceeds for the fight against cancer. Leaps of Love groups can be found throughout Missouri and Illinois — including in America's Hometown. The 501c3 nonprofit group works with medical professionals so children with cancer have access to food, gas, medical expenses and other necessities.

On Oct. 10, Leaps of Love representatives Patty Light and Sandy Terry received a donation of $1,500 from the Loafers Car Club. The club hosted monthly cruise-in events at Farm and Home Supply, and all the proceeds from the club's donation jug went toward the organization. Loafers Car Club members regularly take children on rides in their classic vehicles, and the club has donated $25,000 to Leaps of Love so far.

The ideal weather for cruise-ins may still be a few months away, but community members can still contribute. On #Giving Tuesday, Leaps of Love is requesting donations throughout its coverage area, and Hannibal area residents can help boost the efforts. To give a donation to Leaps of Love in Hannibal or to learn more about the organization, please call (573) 221-4409. Checks may also be mailed to Leaps of Love, Hannibal, at 100 Center St.
