Vacant motel fire ruled incendiary

A fire extinguished Wednesday, Oct. 17, in a vacant motel at 612 Mark Twain Ave. has been ruled as incendiary in nature by a Hannibal Fire Department investigator.

The HFD was dispatched to the fire by Marion County 911 at approximately 6:51 p.m. Wednesday.All HFD stations responded, with 10 firefighters. 

Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the vacant rear motel building.  Firefighters made an interior attack on a ground level interior room and the fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes. 

Crews performed a search of the structure, but no occupants and no fire extension was found.

Salvage and overhaul was completed on the fire area. The HFD remained on the scene for approximately three hours. There were no injuries. 

The fire chief and one Hannibal fire investigator were called to the scene and ruled the fire as incendiary.
