Bathe to Save Tour to return during Dog's Day Downtown

Misty Maklad, of Real Food is the New Black, visits Mutts on the Mississippi with her furry friend, Athena, one of the heat winners during the event's peanut butter licking contest. The pair enjoy a mother/daughter day, as they stand in front of Bubbles the HydroDog, a mobile pet grooming device that's part of the nationwide Bathe to Save tour. The Amos family's tour will return again during the Dog's Day Downtown event Saturday, June 16.

Locally owned 2 Besties Biscuits announced in March 2018 that they, along with the Northeast Missouri Humane Society, would sponsor a Dog’s Day Downtown event in Historic Downtown Hannibal. What they did not know at the time was that Bathe to Save would return to Hannibal once again on their national tour.

The Dog’s Day Downtown event is set to launch the capital campaign for the Northeast Missouri Humane Society’s new facility, and will also be a Bathe to Save event similar to the one from last year from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 16. All of the proceeds from the day will be going towards the building of a new NEMO Humane Society facility and a much brighter future for the animals that call it home.

In August 2017, 2 Besties Biscuits along with the NEMO Humane Society, Printex and many other contributing sponsors and vendors, hosted a record-breaking Bathe to Save event with 82 dogs washed. To date, that number has not been exceeded, even by the metropolitan areas visited in the United States. Bathe to Save’s presence in the Hannibal community raised awareness for the shelter and the companion animals waiting within those walls to find their forever home. The NEMO Humane Society has seen an increase in adoptions since the event in 2017. Now, Bathe to Save is returning to help kick off this new chapter in the lives of so many animals seeking homes.

This year the 2 Besties behind 2 Besties Biscuits face the challenge of outdoing themselves with the help, once again, of their friends at the NEMO Humane Society and many others. This year’s event will be held in the 200 block on Main St. between Center St. and Bird St. in Historic Downtown Hannibal.

Rain or shine, Dog’s Day Downtown promises just as much fun as last year’s Bathe to Save event, You can expect to see activities like dog- and pet-related vendors, a human/canine look-a-like contest, Caricatures with your dog, local flair from the downtown businesses and, of course, the opportunity for you and your pup to meet the Bathe to Save crew.

Bathe to Save will be washing dogs for a donation determined by the size of the dog at this year’s event just like last year. As always, all of the proceeds from the day will go to the animals at the Northeast Missouri Humane Society. The vendors will be contributing a portion of their proceeds while Finn’s Food and Spirits and Java Jive will be donating a percentage of their drink specials to the shelter.

In addition to all of the Dog’s Day Downtown fun on June 16, Finn’s Food and Spirit’s Crawfish & Shrimp Boil and the 4th Annual Lone Wolf Bike Show will be taking place. Without a doubt, Saturday, June 16 will be a great day to pack the family and friends in the car and head to Historic Downtown Hannibal. There will be fun for all ages.
