2nd 'OPERATION: Feed the Furballs' poised to deliver meals to local dogs

Volunteers unload bags of dog food at the Northeast Missouri Humane Society in May 2017. The food was purchased with proceeds from 2 Besties Biscuits' “OPERATION: Feed the Furballs” program from February through April 2017. The operation netted 4,832 meals for dogs at the shelter. The program has returned for 2018.

Hannibal's 2 Besties Biscuits co-owners announced in January 2017 that they were on a mission to "Feed the Furballs" at the Northeast Missouri Humane Society.

For 2018, the two best friends are at it again. Since they opened up in September of 2016, the two besties have donated 20 percent of the proceeds from every homemade, all-natural dog biscuit they sell to the Northeast Missouri Humane Society (NEMOHS). In 2017, over 7,000 meals were delivered to NEMOHS as a result of their customers’ purchases. They did not think that was enough — for their second year, co-owners Angela Brown and Paula Brown have again enlisted locally-owned small businesses in their hometown of Hannibal to assist with the mission: OPERATION: Feed the Furballs.

Every business listed below immediately said "yes" when asked to participate in this second year of 2 Besties’ giving community project. They did not have to be reminded or convinced. They were on board as soon as they received the email.

Participating 2018 businesses are:

Mark Twain Dinette, Java Jive, Chocolaterie Stam, Ole Planter's Restaurant, Finn's Food & Spirits and Hannibal Chiropractic & Wellness.

There is always a need for food and supplies at the Northeast Missouri Humane Society. Often the need is greater after the holidays. OPERATION: Feed the Furballs is a chance for the community of Hannibal to come together to feed the furballs. From January to April, every year, the purchase of one PINK box (#buythepinkbox) gives four dogs a meal at the NEMO Humane Society. All of the proceeds from every pink box sold is going to the pups. Neither the participating local business nor 2 Besties Biscuits profits from this in any way. It is truly about giving. That is the best thing about OPERATION: Feed the Furballs: A community of local businesses has come together to support one another, to give with no promise of anything in return.
