Marvin "Nelson" Davis, 83, of Hannibal, passed away at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

Marvin "Nelson" Davis, 83, of Hannibal, passed away at 12:43 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.


Funeral Services will be at noon Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hannibal. Pastor Mark Albee will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Friday at the church.

The family is being served by the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.


Nelson was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Moriarty, N.M., to Marvin and Bessie Opal Meadows Davis.


He was married to Joyce Elizabeth Blevins on March 4, 1960, at the Christ Lutheran Church in Albuquerque, N.M. She survives.


Other survivors include five children, Brenda Rippeto (Larry), Wayne Davis (Penny), Connie Smith (Dennis), Everett Davis (Robbin), and Boyd Davis (Cassie), two sisters, Geneva Johnston, and Peggy Hall, 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Carol Downs and one grandson, Mark Davis.


Nelson was a graduate of Albuquerque High School in Albuquerque, N.M., Class of 1952. He completed two years of college at the University of New Mexico.


Nelson served his country proudly in the U.S. Army in Fairbanks, Alaska, obtaining the rank of Specialist Rank 3 and was recognized as battalion soldier of the month.


He retired from Hannibal LaGrange University after 16 years as superintendent of maintenance.


Upon his retirement he volunteered at several Texas Baptists camps supervising construction and maintenance projects.

He was a skilled carpenter and enjoyed building and remodeling homes. Nelson also enjoyed crappie fishing, especially at Crystal Blue Lake. His most enjoyable time was spent with family and grandchildren.

Nelson was an actively involved with the Operation Christmas Child-Shoe box Ministry. He was a member at Immanuel Baptist Church in Hannibal.


Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Elevator Fund or Operation Christmas Child.


Pallbearers will be Wayne Davis, Everett Davis, Boyd Davis, Tyler Crump, Jeff Davis, Justin Davis, John David, and Evan Davis.


Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Davis, and Jonathan Davis.
