Expected heavy rains, coupled with more rain in the forecast for the next several days, have prompted the issuance of a river flood warning for the Mississippi River at Hannibal and Clarksville.

The National Weather Service issued the warning early Wednesday morning. Although a warning was issued, no damage is expected to occur.

According to the NWS, the flood stage at Hannibal is 16 feet. A crest is expected Thursday morning just above that mark. The river is expected to recede below flood stage by Monday evening. At Clarksville, flood stage 25 feet, the river should crest around 25.7 feet late Friday.

At 16 feet, the John Hay Recreation Area on the Illinois side of the river across from Hannibal begins to flood. The current forecast calls for precipitations and noticably cooler temperatures for the next several days, with a 100 percent chance for rain on Saturday.
