Pat Waelder, owner of The Hickory Stick Quilt and Gift Shop, 326 North Main St., will be celebrating 40 years in business in Historic Downtown Hannibal on Monday, April 17.
Waelder’s business has become a destination in the Historic Downtown, bringing enthusiastic quilting bus groups and visitors from around the country to shop the thousands of bolts contained in her store, according to Gail Bryant, director of the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Waelder’s shop has received many honors in its 40 years of business, including being named one of the Top Ten Quilt Shops in North America by Better Homes and Gardens Magazine, from more than 3,000 quilt stores for the coveted title.
"We are so fortunate to have such a longstanding staple in our historic downtown," said Bryant. "Through excellent customer service, quality product and a thorough knowledge of marketing to her audience, Pat has become a destination for quilters around the country."
A formal presentation to recognize Waelder will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, at The Hickory Stick Quilt and Gift Shop.
