For teams interested in entering the time-affirmed tradition of making the best wings in the cold winter, the fee for the annual Jaycees Wing Ding will soon increase.
And for those who can't wait to exercise the taste buds during the annual event, it's time to mark the calendar.
Registration fees for teams interested in participating will remain $100 for just a few more days. When the page turns from 2016 to 2017, the fee will increase to $125. The entry fee will again increase to $150 beginning on Jan. 21, 2017. The annual event will take place on Jan. 28. Doors will open at 11 a.m., with wing tastings at 1 p.m., games at 2 p.m. and the coronation of the wing champion at 5:30 p.m. All events will take place at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in Hannibal.
Fifteen teams will be accepted into the competition. To register, visit the Jaycees website at www.hannibaljaycees.org/wing-ding
New this year, a Rooster Run 5K will take place in the morning. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. The course this year will wind through the trails in the South Main street area and will end at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
Proceeds of this year's contest will help benefit Down Country, a non-profit organization in the tri-states that promotes disability awareness.
