13 pounds of marijuana seized in traffic stop

An Indiana man and a Mexican national were allegedly found with 13 pounds of illegal drugs following a traffic stop in Marion County.

On Dec. 9, at approximately 4:15 a.m., a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff’s Department performed a traffic on U.S. Highway 36 near Route Z in Monroe City.

As a result of this stop, the Deputy recovered 13 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle and the two individuals in the vehicle were taken into custody, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.

The two individuals were identified as David R. McKitrick, 33, of Indiana and Jose Luis R. Chavez, 22, of Nocupetaro, Mexico. Both subjects are currently being held on a 24-hour investigative hold at the Marion County Jail pending review by the Prosecuting Attorney.

Marion County Deputy was assisted by the Monroe City Police Department’s K9 Unit.
