John Russell "Russ" Carnahan.

AGE: 58. Born July 10, 1958.

HOME: St. Louis.

POLITICAL PARTY: Democrat.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in public administration, University of Missouri-Columbia, 1979. Law degree, University of Missouri, 1983.

EXPERIENCE: State representative, 2000-2004; U.S. House of Representatives, 2005-2013. Lost 1990 general election to Republican Rep. Bill Emerson in 8th Congressional District.

FAMILY: Wife, Debra Goetz; two grown sons.

Tommy Pierson Sr.

AGE: 70. Born Jan. 29, 1946.

HOME: Bellefontaine Neighbors.

POLITICAL PARTY: Democrat

EDUCATION: 1965 graduate of Beaumont High School. Attended various seminaries and religion-related seminars.

EXPERIENCE: State representative for House District 66 since 2010. Has served on the Riverview Gardens School Board. Pastor at Greater St. Mark Family Church near Ferguson. Former 32-year worker for General Motors.

FAMILY: Wife, JoAnn Pierson, and three grown children.

Winston Apple

AGE: 67. Born Aug. 9, 1948.

HOME: Independence.

POLITICAL PARTY: Democrat.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in secondary education, University of Missouri-Kansas City, 1970. Master's degree in curriculum and instruction, UMKC, 1990.

EXPERIENCE: Lost 2014 Democratic primary for Missouri's District 29 House seat. Former government history and economics teacher. Current singer and songwriter who owns a production company. Founder and chief spokesman for the nonpartisan Populists in Action political action committee.

FAMILY: Wife, Mary Apple, and three grown children.

Mike Parson

AGE: 60. Born Sept. 17, 1955.

HOME: Bolivar.

POLITICAL PARTY: Republican.

EDUCATION: Took courses at the universities of Maryland and Hawaii while in the military.

EXPERIENCE: State senator for District 28 since 2010. Served 12 years as Pope County sheriff. Army veteran, cattle rancher and former owner of gas stations.

FAMILY: Wife, Teresa Parson, and two grown children.

Bev Randles

AGE: 43. Born Aug. 3, 1972.

HOME: Kansas City, Missouri

POLITICAL PARTY: Republican.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in English from Murray State University, 1994. Law degree, University of Missouri-Columbia, 1999.

EXPERIENCE: Past member of the Missouri Club for Growth board (2010-2015) and the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights' Missouri Advisory Council.

FAMILY: Husband, Bill Randles, and a 17-year-old stepson.
