Hannibal Regional Healthcare System recently welcomed a new face to the group — Hossein Behniaye, MD.

Dr. Behniaye graduated from medical school at the University of Toledo in 2007. From there, he went on to his Family Medicine residency at the Toledo Hospital. After completing his residency, Dr. Behniaye went to practice at the Southeast Mississippi Rural Health Initiative, Inc., where he has been for the last five years.

“As a physician I have the privilege, and with it enormous responsibility and challenge, of providing the best, the safest, the most compassionate and individualized medical care for my patient,” Dr. Behniaye said, when asked why he loves his profession. “As such I could also affect the lives of my patient’s current and future generations. Such challenges, each with varying degrees of investigation and care, provide me with a fulfilling and satisfying life as it paves the road of my contribution to the betterment of humankind beyond and above my lifetime.”

When asked about his approach to patient care he used as an example that “Diabetes and Hypertension, among other chronic diseases, have become more prominent in any community. At the same time the treatment options available have increased both in numbers and effectiveness. However, this also has resulted in the possibility of multiple medications and also increased side effects for individuals. Although these could be inevitable for successful treatment, in my experience I have had more success managing treatments when I get to spend time educating the patient about their diseases and progress and also their medications and side effects at their visit. Through this approach my patients have become actively involved with their own care, have experienced less anxiety, and have become partners in treating their disease - knowing the specific reasons for their medications and their effects.” Dr. Behniaye has also been active and vocal about the patient health issues through organized medicine. He is currently completing the Physician Leadership Program sponsored by the Mississippi Medical Association. This is a process by which the physician’s voice and input can directly be considered in legislative process for issues affecting patient care. He has had the privilege of being the “Doctor for the Day” at the Mississippi State House of Representatives, seeing the state's representatives as patients on February 18.

“We are so excited to have Dr. Behniaye join us. His experience and education will be a great addition to Hannibal Regional Medical Group,” said Kurt Ebers, clinic administrator.

Dr. Behniaye will be accompanying Adam Samaritoni, DO, Kim Shaw, FNP-BC, Jeanette Greving, FNP-BC, Sherry Masterson, FNP-BC, and Tatyana Rains, NP-C in Family Practice. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Behniaye, call (573)629-3400.
