HANNIBAL | The Marion County Health Department announced its eighth positive case of novel coronavirus on Thursday.

A male nursing home resident in the 70-80 year age range is currently hospitalized. There are now three active COVID-19 cases in Marion County, with five recoveries and zero deaths.

The Marion County Health Department staff is working in coordination with the Missouri Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) to determine any close contacts of that individual who may have been exposed. If there are any, health officials will provide guidance to these individuals and monitor them closely for the development of symptoms.

The Marion County Health Department urges the public to take appropriate precautions; including good hygiene, social distancing and limiting in-person interactions. Those who display symptoms such as a fever, cough or shortness of breath should stay home and contact their health care provider or urgent care center for guidance and next steps.

For more information, visit the DHSS website at www.health.mo.gov/coronavirus or the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus. A statewide COVID-19 hotline operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 877-435-8411.
