Janice Lynn Erke, age 70, of New Canton, Ill., passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020, at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal. She was born on Dec. 5, 1949, in Hannibal to Bernard and Gilda Bradshaw Erke.

Janice graduated from Barry High School and went on to attend Robert Morris College and Illinois College, where she graduated with her RN degree. She worked as an RN for about 10 years in Oklahoma City, then returned to Pike County. She went on to get a degree in graphic arts from John Wood Community College and began working for the Hannibal Courier-Post doing graphic designing for ads. She retired in January of this year. Janice was a very talented drawer and painter, and she enjoyed reading and spending time with family.

She is survived by her parents, Bernard and Gilda Erke; two sons, Chad Todd and Cristopher Todd, both of New Canton, Ill.; daughter, Jodi Todd of Jacksonville, Ill.; three brothers, Lynn Erke of Barry, Ill., James Erke of New Canton, Ill., and Thomas Erke of New Canton, Ill.; and two sisters, Anita Bellovich of New Canton, Ill., and Susan Neff of Hannibal.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David Erke.

No services will be held, and cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be left to the family at Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
