Teen drowns in Marion County pond

PHILADELPHIA, MO. | Jayden T. Richardson, 19, of Sumner, Mo., died in a drowning accident at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, in a private pond in rural Marion County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported Richardson was riding a 12-foot Perception kayak in a pond on Marion County Road 144 two and a half miles west of Philadelphia, Mo.

Officers said he fell out of the kayak and failed to resurface. He was not using a safety device.

Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:45 p.m. by Marion County Coroner Rick Jones. Assisting were the Missouri Department of Conservation, Marion County Sheriff's Department, Hannibal Fire Department and Marion County Ambulance District.
