HANNIBAL | The Hannibal girls basketball team closed out their regular season on a high note with an 54-53 win over Mexico on Senior Night.

The game ended with Mexico narrowly missing a 3-pointer as time expired, as Hannibal was able to hold on for a narrow victory.

“Both teams played incredibly hard for all four quarters,” said Hannibal head coach Evan Cerven. “We were multiple in our defenses, which didn't allow their guards to get into a flow. We were able to spread our scoring out and had a lot of kids contributing great minutes defensively as well. A complete team win.”

Neither team was able to get a big lead in Tuesday's game, as both the Pirates and the Bulldogs exchanged leads multiple times. Hannibal had it's biggest lead at the end of the third quarter with six points, but Mexico would outscore the Pirates by five points in the fourth quarter, making it interesting.

Hannibal sophomore center Bella Falconer led the team in scoring with 19 points. Senior guard Emma Deien was second with nine points. Sydney Hart, Kaylee Falconer and Taylor Simms each added eight points.

Mexico sophomore Mya Miller led her team in scoring with 20 points, and was 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Senior Logan Blevins added 18 points.

Three Hannibal seniors were recognized prior to the game on Senior Night; Kaylee Falconer, Deien and Abby Baumann.

Up next – Hannibal will play the winner fo the Warrenton-Fulton district quarterfinal game in the semifinal game on Tuesday. Game time is schedule for 4:30 p.m. at Mexico High School.
