With several inches of snow and construction fencing making the rounds a little more challenging, the Feb. 15 Ice Bowl Disc Golf Tournament in Huckleberry Park went off without a hitch, according to the sponsoring Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department.
The number one rule is that it will not be canceled due to weather. The number of participants was down, but the tri-states were all represented. Prizes were provided by Excitement Disc Golf.
Proceeds from the Ice Bowl will go to the Buddy Pack program, which benefits more than 500 Marion County school children. The program allows children to take home backpacks full of free food each Friday. The backpacks are full of juice, soup, cereal, peanut butter and other simple staples. The goal is to make sure low-income children stay fed, healthy and productive. Participants also brought canned goods for a local food pantry.
Winners, first through third place, respectively, were:
• A Flight – Rodney Schild of Quincy, Ill., Myles Hummel of Quincy, lll., and Matt Frymoyer of Canton, Mo.
• B Flight - Daniel Soebbing of Quincy, Ill., Roger Beachy of Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Jason Courson of Quincy, Ill.
• C Flight - Aaron Leake of Hannibal, John Shoemate of Fort Madison, Iowa, and Brad Fink of Hannibal
